Parrtjima

When: April

Set against the backdrop of the MacDonnell Ranges, Parrtjima is held on Mparntwe (Alice Springs), home of Arrenrtne People.

The only First Nations light festival of its kind in the world, Parrtjima showcases some of the oldest continuous cultures on earth through the newest technology – all on a 300-million-year old natural canvas.

Wide Open Space Festival (returning in 2020)

When: May

For three days, Wide Open Space becomes part of the majestic MacDonnell Ranges. People, lights and music are temporarily stitched into a patchwork of rocks, River Redgums and sand.

The festival explores the mental, emotional, social, cultural and environmental landscapes of the desert.


Alice Springs Cup Carnival

When: May

Showcasing the best that #RedCentreRacing has to offer, the Ladbrokes Alice Springs Cup Carnival is a must-see for locals and visitors to Central Australia. Featuring four action-packed weeks of racing, there is something for everyone: fashions, fun, luncheons, horse sales and an all-around amazing time.


The Finke Desert Race

When: June

The Tatts Finke Desert Race is an off-road, multi-terrain two-day race for bikes, cars, buggies and quads through desert from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) community. This is one of the biggest annual sporting events in the Northern Territory and has the reputation of being one of the most difficult offroad courses in one of the most remote places in the world.


Alice Springs Beanie Festival 

When: June/July

The festival was organised to sell beanies crocheted by Aboriginal women in remote communities. It has grown into a fun event where Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal artists share their culture and exhibit together. The festival is unique because of the incredible amount of community participation, the unique ties with local Aboriginal organisations and the incredible beanie designs.

Alice Springs Camel Cup

When: July 

The Alice Springs Camel Cup is hosted by the Apex Club of Central Australia and is held at the Alice Springs Turf Club. The iconic Camel Cup provided a great day out with a full program Camel Racing, Food & Market Stalls, Fashions on the Field, Novelty races, activities for all ages and so much more!

 

Alice Springs Rotary Henley on Todd Regatta

When: August

The Henley on Todd is a boating regatta not quite like any other. Participants carry the boats with no bottoms racing up and down the sandy dry Todd River. The day is all in good fun with the world only boat race with no water. Capture all of the boating action, join in or try some of the other activities, including sandcastle competitions, rubber duck races, market-style stalls and more!


Lasseters Classic Outback Trial

When: August/September (Bi-Annual Event)

The Classic Outback Trial is a seven-day rally event offering a unique quality – the promise of the Australian Outback, an almost unlimited choice of exciting roads, a constantly changing and challenging terrain, and the opportunity to participate in one the most amazing parts of Australia – The Red Centre.

 


Red CentreNATS

When: September

Red Centre Nats, in association with Summer Nats, is a three-day high octane, petrol celebrating, car festival. Hundreds of competitors travel from all over Australia to showcase their pride and joy and compete for the title of Red Centre Nats Champion! The festival includes a show-stopping street parade, burnout competitions, show and shine, rock and rumble concert, motorkhana and so much more!

Alice Springs Masters Games

When: October (Bi-Annual Event)

In 1986 the first ever Masters Games event in Australia was held in Alice Springs, encouraging participation in a variety of sporting events. The Games and the concept developed into a success story and quickly earned the reputation of ‘The Friendly Games’ because of the camaraderie and good spirited nature of the competitors and the environment created by the games village atmosphere of Alice Springs.
